Companion
Coordination
GiftsofGab.org is a volunteer call-based companion coordination that connects social work students with those in need of social interaction to combat the negative effects loneliness can have on long term health through weekly phone calls.
Phone calls will last 15 to 45 minutes based on the companions' preference. Phone calls will consist of light social interaction, such as discussing hobbies, memories, weather, games, and helping with any finding referrals for assistance, if necessary.
We also offer Group About Being Together meetings through local libraries. GAB Together is a social support group created by GiftsofGab.org to foster the mission of social network building through weekly Zoom/call-based group interactive discussions and guided activities.
How it works:
1
SEEKING COMPANIONSHIP
If a member of the community is starting to feel lonely or is in need of social interaction, they call the connect line and speak with a companion coordinator. They are now listed as a community companion. They answer a few questions about likes and dislikes, hobbies, preferred call times, the preferred amount of calls, etc.

COORDINATION
The coordinator then links a community companion with a student companion. The coordinator sets up times for calls and links the two.

3
STUDENT AND COMMUNITY COMPANION
The last step is the student companion calls the community companion and they have their set call times/days for weekly phone calls.
